Microsoft Will Let Times Readers Download Paper

Microsoft and The New York Times released software that would allow readers to download an electronic version of the newspaper and view it on any portable device.

Already Many magazines and newspapers are currently offering a digital(online) edition that's exact electronic replica (including fonts, typeface and layout) of its printed version. The digital(online) versions can be read in either Acrobat Reader(PDF format) or the Zinio Reader format.

As Newspapers have been trying to develop a stronger online presence as readers and advertisers continue to migrate to the Internet. The new software is meant to make it easier to read an electronic version of a paper and allow readers to download multiple papers and magazines to take with them from any part of the world.

At the American Society of Newspaper Editorss conference in Seattle, Bil Gates showcased the Times Reader, an Reader software for Windows Vista that resembles like the Zinio Reader. Virtually any newspaper, magazine or book can be formatted into an electronic version and can be read online or offline with this Times Reader.

The text in Times Reader is displayed in columns and formats to fit the size and layout of any computer screen and enables readers to customize the display according to personal preferences, such as font size and content relevance. The Times Reader also uses the same font styles as the printed newspaper, extending the strong brand identity of The New York Times.
