Here is a way that a file can be zipped from (DOS)command promt. Here is what you need to do:

If you are Using PKZIP Then just type in the following to zip the file
pkzip25.exe -add zipfile.zip myfile.txt

If you are Using WINZIP Then just type in the following to zip the file
wzzip zipped.zip sourcefile.ext
