Posted by Harsha

Internet explorer for MAC
The Internet Explorer for Mac had not been updated since June 2003, and now Microsoft has announced that it is not supporting it anymore. Microsoft has advised all its Mac users of Internet Explorer to switch to Apple's Safari.

Microsoft to end support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st 2005, and will provide no further updates. Additionally, as of January 31st, 2006. Internet Explorer for the Mac will no longer be available for download from Mactopia.

Bill Thompson of BBC offers a proposal to Microsoft to Give IE to the people that Let them to work with its code and keep that useful product alive.

I might even consider running an open source IE build on my laptop, if I knew that I wouldn't have to rely on Microsoft's support for a minority operating system to get bug fixes done.

It would be too much to hope for the code to be made public domain and given away without any copyright restrictions, but it could at least get its highly-paid legal team to come up with a reasonably permissive licence that would let coders get their hands on the last supported version and keep it going.
