Google: Accessible Web Search for Blind

Posted by Harsha

Google Labs has come up with Accessible Search that is designed to identify and target search results that are more easily usable by blind and visually impaired users.

Google search helps you find a set of documents that is most relevant to your search. Accessible Search goes one step further by helping you find the most accessible pages in that result set.

google for disabled and blind

Google Accessible Search looks at a number of signals by examining the HTML markup found on a web page. It tends to favor pages that degrade gracefully pages with few visual distractions and pages that are likely to render well with images turned off. Google Accessible Search is built on Google Co-ops technology, which improves search results based on specialized interests.

To make your website more useable you need to follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines which explains you how to make your Web content accessible to people with disabilities.

HP: Miniature Wireless Memory Chip

Posted by Harsha

HP has developed a miniature wireless data chip that could provide broad access to digital content in the physical world.
HP Miniature Wireless Memory Chip
The experimental chip, developed by the "Memory Spot" research team at HP Labs, is a memory device based on CMOS (a widely used, low-power integrated circuit design) and about the size of a grain of rice or smaller (2 mm to 4 mm square), with a built-in antenna. The chips could be embedded in a sheet of paper or stuck to any surface, and could eventually be available in a booklet as self-adhesive dots.

The new chips "could be embedded in a sheet of paper or stuck to any surface, and could eventually be available in a booklet as self-adhesive dots," HP reported.

The chip has a 10 megabits-per-second data transfer rate and is 10 times faster than Bluetooth wireless technology and comparable to WiFi speeds. Storage capacity ranges from 256 kilobits to 4 megabits which enables it to store a very short video clip, several images or dozens of pages of text.

Vonage
Vonage has had couple of bad months lately. There was the botched IPO leading to plenty of angery shareholder customers, later with few new patent lawsuits. The stock didn't do well which many predicted well before the IPO.

Now, spyware researcher Ben-Edleman has released a article which quotes that Vonage ads seem to show up in an awful lot of spywares including one of the major spyware providers.
