Posted by Harsha

Google is soon to launch free citywide Wi-Fi, Internet service to everyone in its Silicon Valley home town Mountain View.

This move would make Mountain View the largest US city with free Internet Access. There are more than 72000 people living in this city, which is just 35 miles down south of SFO. The population has swelled to about 100000 people during the day.

"We are not concerned about being able to handle the load," said Chris Sacca, a Google executive who oversaw the Mountain View project. "We think we have built a pretty cool, robust network."

Wi-Fi networks are even been planned in many other cities, including Philadelphia and Chicago, but most of those envision charging. Google invested a million in this project.

Yahoo Photos: New And Now Live

Posted by Harsha

Yahoo announced the launch of its new AT&T Yahoo Photos, a web based photo service, offering better conveniences at sharing photo collections, including digital photos.

Yahoo Photos
Yahoo Photos is the most ambitious Web based photo sharing, organizing and editing service. It is clearly inspired by the Yahoo owned Flickr service, but it is different, and aimed at a broader audience, with more feature rich. And in many ways, it is a sterling example of how sophisticated and powerful browser based services have gotten, since it feels a lot like desktop based tools, sports elegant with drag-and-drop functionality, and offers unlimited online storage for your photos at full resolution. The sharing features, which let you share or restrict pictures on an album or photo-by-photo basis, are cool, too.

Users can also now order prints online for pickup at local stores, place ship-to-home orders, or order personalized photo gifts .

AT&T said the service functions much like a desktop application but offers the combination of remote access from any Web-connected computer, with no software download required.

Google Analytics: Now Open to All

Posted by Harsha

Google Analytics is a popular website traffic statistics tracker was available only by invitation only. After the free initial launch, the overwhelming public response led to the closure of further new accounts and now it is reopened again on an invitation basis.

According to Google Analytics weblog now they are providing instant access to anyone interested in tracking their sitestats.

When we founded Urchin we actually had an ad-based business model where we were able to give the product away for free. It did not last and we eventually went with a paid model. But when our company was acquired in April 2005 we worked with Google to determine a way to give it away for free again, this time with no ads. By doing this, we are able to give all websites -- large and small -- the tools you need to better serve your customers, make more money, and improve the web experience for everyone.
